The use of another convention of the classic genre, in nearly every classic black and white horror film features a damsel in distress who is stalked and prayed on by a male villain. She is always beautiful on a scene, pure and helpless. A film which features is the Tod Browning 1931 'Dracular'. [INSERT PIC] The idea that the attack could be of a sexual nature is not obvious in our film, however leaves room for the possibility.
Another convention similar to the horror genre is the classic story line, we created nothing out of the ordinary to avoid confusion. In films such as Stanley Kubrick's, 'The shining'

We also challenge conventions quite bravely by producing a classic horror/ modern sci-fi. Instead of sticking to black and white which was the original plan, we made a brave decision to use colour grading, which gave a huge amount of unease to the film which was the intentions. It's so close to reality however not quite the same, which makes it eerie. This decision was the beginning of the sci-fi genre with a classic horror undertone.
The non-diagetic music which creates suspense and a pace tot he film, challenges all sci-fi films. This music is not featured in such films because most films would not mix genres to avoid a possible clash. The music from our film was an influence from typical classic horrors.
Another factor which challenges conventions of real media products is the villain, by watching our film some may question why there is an un-human villain in a school. This breaks every stereotypical sci-fi or classic horror. For example James Cameron's 'The Terminator'
